Ain’t No God In Mexico

How long do you live somewhere before you feel adjusted? When I lived in Atlanta, time flew by fast, I looked up one day and I was 5 years in. Here, it feels a little different. I haven’t done any of the more touristy things that I’ve been hoping to get done, but again, are those even a priority when you move some place new?

There are a few things I wish I knew before I moved down here. Of course I followed Tik Toks and learned as much as I could about Playa, but some things you just don’t know until you get to where you are going.

One of the most important things for me was getting around. There’s no uber here and their taxi system isnt similar. When I first arrived, I lived further from the beach, into the country. There was a small shopping area where I could get food and necessities. It was about 2 miles away and I would walk that path everyday getting familiar with the area and the people. There is a taxi app (Radio Taxi PDC) available in the app store, they offer numbers to text and connect you to a taxi, which I needed for my beach trips.

The grocery store was another huge adjustment. My first introduction was the Chedraui, it has a lot of basics, but since it was my first time in the country, I quickly realized that not only is everything in a different language, weighed differently, but the meats are stored and also smell completely differently than I’m used to. Once I got closer to the tourist area, the Chedraui’s were a little bit more familiar with produce, ingredients etc.

Things I wish I knew before moving to mexico

  1. There is no Uber, download the Radio Taxi App

  2. Use the DIdi app for food deliveries!

  3. Pesos are always welcomed, not everyone (food vendors) take card. Atms are cheapest in grocery store/bank areas. Not tourist populated areas. Don’t carry too much at one time though. (I still have an american credit union and dont pay a conversion fee when I swipe)

  4. Tourist areas have more english speakers, however dont rely on that to get around.

  5. PDC (city) is very walkable as long as you don’t mind the heat.

  6. Chedraui has the freshest produce (compared to some Super Aki’s

  7. I feel safer here than I did in Atlanta. I know that says a LOT, but I will walk out my house at 1am and not fear being followed.
