This weekend I went to see the Van Gogh Exhibit at Pullman Warehouse. I had very little expectations, however the overall experience was sad. I knew a bit about Van Gogh before arriving, mostly surrounding post impressionist work, but the break down of his lifestyle and events was slightly more jarring than even the exhibit allowed. Knowing one of his most recognizable pieces “Starry Night” was inspired from by the view from one of his many stints at the asylum (and one of the “stars” included is actually the planet Venus) really changes how you view it, especially after its been commercialized and plastered over a doormat.

The above video is a glimpse of the art they had for display, they also had a few interactive pieces (his bedroom) Along with a projector screen room that put you in the middle of his art. If you want to see a little more, I definitely recommend springing for the virtual reality tour, It was a really cool experience to see the areas that inspired his work.

Vincent only sold a handful of paintings while he was alive, becoming world renown after taking his life. Post mortem, his work sold for tens of millions. Needless to say, the exhibit sparked the desire to support more artists while they are alive and can feel the love (and hey, use the money).
