I finally went horseback riding. I’d say it was a lot easier than I thought, but that was two days ago and it hurts to laugh. This gorgeous mare you see is named Grace. She loves carrots, is as sweet as can be and HUGE. We visited a Black Owned Ranch called “Stretch Out On Faith Again” or SOOFA. The instructor, Daryl was very patient and answered any questions before we began riding. He helped us not only get acquainted with the horses, but assisted us with building confidence before we rode the trail.

We rode for about an hour or 45 minutes, altnertaing between a light jog and a brisk trot. Once I figure out how to relax my muscles post ride, I’d love to not only try something a little more challenging but go more often. Being able to connect with an animal and establish even a brief relationship was more rewarding than I thought it could be. I don’t really engage in nature on this level, and I’m definitely not a fan of relinquishing that much control so this was a new task for me that was enjoyable. ‘Til next time, Grace.
